A bill passed in the Kansas Legislature in 2017 requires human trafficking training for CDL renewals or first time CDL acquisition as of July 1, 2018. Drivers will be required to bring proof of their completion of the human trafficking program with them when they go to renew or obtain their CDL. This will impact the approximately 150,000 people who hold CDLs in the state of Kansas.
The human trafficking training program that drivers will be required to complete was created by the group “Truckers Against Trafficking.” The training takes about 30 minutes and consists of a short video and a quiz that can be completed online.
Kansas will join Arkansas as the only two states that require human trafficking training for drivers who already have their CDL. Several other states require human trafficking training only for drivers who are obtaining their CDL for the first time. Truckers Against Trafficking as certified 573,296 truck drivers nationwide.
